Copper Silver Ionisation (Cu Ag)
Copper Silver Ionisation is the term given to the electrolytic generation of copper and silver ions providing a continuous release of ions in water. These are generated by passing a low electrical current between two copper and silver electrodes.
The current causes the release of electrically charged copper and silver ions from the electrodes. ESC Global Ltd Copper Silver Ionisations system is designed so that ion release is proportional to the flow rate, maintaining a constant concentration.
When used correctly, copper and silver ionisation is shown to be effective at controlling Legionella and other pathogens and can penetrate and control established biofilms without handling chemicals.
When the positively charged ions meet bacteria, it’s thought that copper reacts with negatively charged molecules on their surface, weakening the wall and allowing silver ions to enter. The silver (and copper) ions then react with biomolecules such as DNA and enzymes, killing the bacterium.
